Now, to the Curriculum!
I’ve provided several exercises for each chapter, as well as the intended lesson for each exercise. They range from the practical to the philosophical. The intent is to really stretch your students’ muscles – to get them thinking and working on many different aspects of writing.

I designed the book so it can be read non-linearly. There’s not necessarily any reason why you must begin with Chapter One. Choose the chapter you think will be most interesting to your students.

You will probably not get to every exercise from every chapter over the course of one semester. In fact, you probably have three or four semester’s worth of exercises here. I’ve tried to provide exercises of sufficient volume and variety that for those instructors who want to provide an intensive course in writing, there are plenty of exercises to provide your students with. If, however, you want to focus on the more ephemeral aspects of writing and keep the workload light, there’s plenty for you here, as well.
